Samba de Gafieira

The authentic partner dance version of Samba.

Samba de Gafieira is originally from Rio de Janeiro and is the partner version of the world-renowned Brazilian dance, Samba.

It appeared in the 1940s and the name is derived from the Gafieira – popular urban nightclubs of Rio de Janeiro at that time. It is the partner version of the world-renowned Brazilian dance, Samba. Through its unique combination of dance genres (in particular Samba, Tango & Swing) Samba de Gafieira establishes its own identity, allowing the dancer to express both grace and playfulness with intimacy and strength.

Samba de Gafieira is unique in that it can be danced with all the other Samba styles and rhythms, such as Pagode, Bossa Nova, and Chorinho, making it dynamic and playful.

Samba de Gafieira is pure charm! It is the perfect marriage between speed and elegance. This is a samba style danced in partners. It mixes fast sexy latin moves with the characteristic charm of bolero. Many of its moves resemble the Argentinian tango. It's a great way to socialise and the more different partners you dance with, the more experienced you become. If you have a dedicated partner to practice with, it's even better because together you can progress much faster. One way or other, you are guaranteed to have fun (and look good) dancing GAFIEIRA. It can be danced to slower or faster samba songs. Out of all the couple's dances, samba has got to be the one with the most charm of all.
